Categorie: Solid Waste
Description:
Three power plants in Kern County are permitted to burn coal. All three are also permitted to burn clean biomass. They are: Mt Poso, Rio Bravo Poso, and Rio Bravo Jasmin. Since ash from incineration of coal is usually treated as a hazardous material and the ash from biomass is not, how are the two different types of ash being treated from these plants? Where is the ash from these plants going? What specifically is happening with the coal ash? The ash used to be piled up by a company named Calash at the old Famoso air strip but they were not properly permitted for that location so they had to move. Where did the operation of stockpiling this ash go?
